Biography
Martha Southwell is a classic realist artist residing in Niagara, Ontario. Her paintings are delicate in style, conveying the beauty in every subject and the essence of the human spirit. Martha is a member of the Portrait Society of Canada and the Canadian Aviation Artists Association. In 2008 her painting, "The Champion" was a finalist in the Portrait Society of Canada's International Portrait Arts Festival. Her paintings have also won numerous awards at juried shows and hang in private collections across Canada.
Martha was born in Niagara Falls, Ontario. From a very young age she began to draw portraits of family members and friends. While majoring in mathematics and computer science at university, she continued drawing portraits and began accepting commissions. Several years later, Martha chose to devote herself to developing her portraiture career.
Martha has exhibited in both group and solo shows in Canada. Venues include, the Portrait Society of Canada's International Arts Festival, the Portrait Society of Canada's Annual Exhibition, St. Catharines Kennedy Gallery and the Pelham Art Festival. Her dedication to mastering the portrait and professionalism create a rewarding experience. Martha is inspired to create lasting memories in each beautifully painted portrait.
